About Smart Classrooms

Smart classrooms are electronically enhanced lecture theaters and classrooms. These rooms create new opportunities in teaching and learning by integrating computer, multimedia and network technology.

The University of Alberta has made a commitment to upgrade the teaching technology installed in the classrooms on a continuing basis, adding to the number of Smart classrooms each year. Every effort has been made to standardize the equipment in the Smart classrooms, however, each room is unique.

Using Smart classrooms carries no cost to the professor or department when they are associated a University of Alberta General Faculties Approved (GFC) course or departmental meeting.

Smart classrooms are also available for use with special events, conferences and Student Union Groups/Clubs for a fee. Please consult our Special Events & Conferences webpage or our Policies webpage for more details.

Smart Classroom Features:

Each room contains a data projector, sound system, VCR, and computers with selected rooms containing a complement of laserdisc players, wireless microphones, and document cameras. See our List of Rooms for a list of all our Smart Classrooms.

In the rooms where the equipment is not installed, portable equipment can be brought in by contacting any Classroom Technologies depot.
