ualberta.ca/chat , an application which provides group chat sessions for the University of Alberta, experienced an issue and had intermittent accessibility.

Who was affected?
Users attempting to register for, or participate in a group chat event on ualberta.ca/chat were affected by this outage.

What was the impact?
The affected users were not able to load the website and couldn't register for or participate in a group chat event during the outage.

What was timeline of the incident?
Start: 2013/07/20 14:50 – Users called to report a problem with ualberta.ca/chat.
2013/07/20 15:00 – IT support analysts began investigating the issue.
2013/07/22 8:00 – Application Hosting analysts verified that the application was working, but continued investigating the issue to determine the cause.
2013/07/22 11:00 – The vendor was contacted regarding Saturday's outage.
End: 2013/07/22 13:00 – The vendor explained that they had experienced a server router outage and confirmed that as of 2013/07/20 16:15, service had been restored.
